Oil and glitter on Canvas, 50 x 60 cm
A space image taken by NASA, which I translated into this painting. I wanted to create vivid colourful painting, therefore, I came up with the idea of glitter.
A Dialogue between Colours
December 2016
Oil on canvas, mixed with bees wax and dammer varnish. 20 x 20 cm

Through this painting I am trying to understand how would colour function in different forms. Also used the primary colours, as they represent nature to me.

December 2016
Each piece is oil on canvas mixed with bees wax and dammer varnish. Each piece 10 x 10 cm.

As part of exploring the mix and use of different material in the artwork and to test people response. I chose the 3 colours [Blue, Yellow and Red] since those are the primary colours of nature, they represent colour in its simplest form.
Abstract Flowers
October 2016
Oil on wood. 40 x 30 cm
This painting as well as Abstract no.2 and Abstract no.1, the 3 paintings came as my translations of the colour scheme in the original images. "Abstract Flowers" and "Abstract no 1" came with some similarities to their original images, however, Abstract no.2 came completely different from the original image in terms of form and colour. This begs a question of (why?) which I will endeavour to answer in the coming months.
... A Little Curious
January 2017
Oil on wood. 2 pieces of wood each = 4.5 x 1 x 1 cm.
Inspired by a photo that I shot in Kew gardens. Two pieces of wood glued together in a ladder shape. I chose this shape and painted all over around, in order to create some sort of a visual illusion. The size came so small to see how people will respond to that, trying to get the viewer to interact with the piece, come closer, gaze harder and hover all around the piece, be "curious" about it . This came as part of my investigation of how would people respond to different sizes and forms of colour. The Lego figure is show the scale of the artwork

Rothko (in progress)
January 2017
Oil on canvas. 60 x 80 cm
Mimiking Rothko's process in order to investigate which emotions he was trying to convey and to understand how would colour function to convey emotions. The colours in this painting are all warm in order to explore and understand which feelings it invokes. Although it seems simple, the painting is labor intesive and demanding, in terms of time and resources. I will probably not make more pieces like this one, since it is not in line with my style and technique.
Dolmabahçe (Dolmabahje)

January 2017

Oil on a wooden-box shaped sculpture. 30x 20x 6 cm

Named after the Turkish Palace (Dolmabahçe Sarayi); in English it is pronounced "Dolmabahje" means (the stuffed garden). The painting was inspired by one of those photos I shot in Kew Gardens. In an attempt to understand how would people respond to colour in 3D in connection to my research in colour. I tried to make the colours as vivid as possible, each brush stroke was mixed with linseed stand oil and dammer varnish so the painting would look as luminous. Also, tried to make it seem like one connected painting if one looks at it from a distance, yet as one looks closely, one would see 5 different paintings (a painting on each side). This is in order to study the viewer's perception of the artwork if presented in this form. The painting in its entirety seems like a mythical seen, the tree leave on the top right corner is intended to create contrast between the myth and reality, in other words, as one may think this is a mythical scene, the tree leave should bring one to reality .
PS. The music is not part of the artwork, it was playing accidentally in the background.

Flora (in progress)
January 2017
Oil on wood, 40 x 40 cm

Inspired by another image from Kew Gardens. The colour scheme of the painting differ from that in the image. I chose subtle cold colours and contrasted it with a hot spot in the centre in the painting in order to lead the viewer to gaze longer at that hotspot. Dark cold colours should complement the remaining parts of the painting to emphasise the subject matter which is the flower itself and further the red spot in the centre.

Blue
November 2016
Oil, pigment and Lapiz Lazuli stone on canvas. 40 x 80 cm

Trying to emphasise how important blue is. Mixed various shades of blue and added blue pigment (the dark blue patches). The Lapiz Lazuli stone in the middle is to express that this is one of the elements of nature used to extract blue. Blue was used by royalties and used to be a rare colour. This painting was to emphasise how important blue is.

November 2016
Oil on loose canvas 70 x 60 cm

Oil colours from the tube not thinned, pasted with painting knife on loose canvas. After having completed the painting, I did not connect with it, because I am more concerned with colourful organic shapes, and will probably not make more pieces similar to this.

Untitled
November 2016
Oil and acrylic paste on loose canvas 30 x 40 cm
Acrylic paste spread with a fork on a loose unprimed canvas, than painted in deep red (wanted a glamorous colour). I was trying to see which effect it will create. The white of the acrylic paste gleamed from under the paint, while the unprimed canvas absorbed the red and created the dark red patches. The resulting piece seemed like cluttered blood - not what I expected. To make it less intense, I added some light blue paint, still not what I had in mind. Then to make the best of an unfortunate painting, I made it look like a bow. Next time I will use acrylic paste in a more structured manner.
